Playful Cards

My best friend, Megan, who has literally saved my life on more than one occasion, has a recipe for what I call my "PTSD episodes." She’s had to teach quite a few people how to navigate one, and it goes a little something like this:

1. Make sure she’s in a position where she can’t get hurt.

2. Slow your breathing down to help regulate hers.

3. Listen actively and don’t speak too much.

4. Do something to help connect her back to her body, like putting ice packs in her hands or asking her to name objects in the room.

5. Guide her into doing something mechanical, like brushing her teeth.

6. Crack a joke.

Because when everything feels completely unhinged, you have to laugh. If only to prove you still can.

Megan taught me that laughter is sometimes the best grounding tool we have. Inspired by her quick wit and ability to make even the unbearable feel a little lighter, I created this collection of cards to bring that same humor into the moments we need it most.

Megan: if you’re reading this (and honestly, you’re probably not—you hate to read), I dedicate this collection to you. Thank you for loving my precious girl and for inspiring every single quip in these cards.
